With 25 years of experience leading organizations across the world, Liu has helped Zywave double in size, break into new markets and execute its mission to lead the insurance industry through digital transformation at every stage of the insurance lifecycle.

Hi, Jason! Thanks for joining us! A big question to kick us off: If you had to do karaoke right here, right now, what song would you sing?

“Roxanne" by The Police is my go-to karaoke song.

And what about on the other side of the stage? If you could travel back in time to see a band play live, who would it be and why?

I'd want to go back in time to see Queen play at the 1985 Live Aid concert at Wembley Stadium in London. It was an iconic moment in rock music with an iconic band.

Good choice! We'll carry on, carry on. What is something you're looking forward to?

My kids are college age, and I look forward to seeing them build their own families and my wife and I spending time with them.

So, what's one piece of advice you'd give to your great-grandchildren?

I'd tell them the secret to life is clear. It is grit—a combination of perseverance and a growth mindset. Most people claim they have a growth mindset, but very few commit to getting better every day by embracing new ideas and new techniques and making it a reality.

What about you? What phrase or cliché do you live by most?

My favorite speech is “The Man in the Arena," by Theodore Roosevelt. I try to live that spirit every day.

The credit belongs to you in that case. So, what goals are you currently working toward outside of work?

I'm hugely into personal self-improvement. How do I get better every day as a person in mind, body, spirit and relationships? I hope to live to 100 years old but do it in a way that has a high quality of life.

Within that century, if you could stop aging at any age, what age would it be?

I'm now in my 50s and every decade I tell myself it doesn't get any better than now. I do think my 50s are a good age, because I've still got good health, I've got college-age kids who can take care of themselves, I can now spend time doing individual activities I enjoy, and I have more time to do things with my wife. When you're in your 30s or 40s, your life revolves around your kids, and there's not a lot of time to do things that you enjoy individually or with your spouse.

Does your family have any strange traditions?

We have a tradition of FFF (Forced Family Fun). We find challenging, unusual activities for our family to do that create unique life experiences. At times, we have picked activities that weren't so good, but there have been several incredible experiences we've had as a family as part of FFF. An example is when we all had to develop and deliver a standup comedy act on stage at an open mic night, competing to see who was the funniest.

I would have to be forced to do that, too. Lastly, what is your dream vacation?

I have a bucket list of dream vacations. I've already done a safari in Africa and ran with the bulls in Spain. But I still need to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro while my health is still good.
