Last week, Rep. French Hill (R-Arkansas) was selected to be the next chairman of the U.S. House of Representatives Financial Services Committee, which has jurisdiction over the insurance industry. He will succeed Rep. Patrick McHenry (R-North Carolina), who is retiring after this Congress.

Rep. Hill currently serves as vice chairman of the House Financial Services Committee and serves as chairman of the House Subcommittee on Digital Assets, Financial Technology and Inclusion.

Before being elected to Congress, Rep. Hill served as an aide in the U.S. Senate, including as a staffer on the Senate Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs. He also served in the George H.W. Bush Administration as special assistant to the president and executive secretary to the Economic Policy Council. Following his time there, he founded Delta Trust & Banking Corp., a full service bank, in Little Rock, Arkansas.

The Big “I" and the Independent Insurance Agents of Arkansas have a long and strong relationship with Rep. Hill and regularly advise him and his staff on insurance-related issues.

Rep. Hill most recently addressed the Big “I" Legislative Conference in 2022 at the Large Agent, Broker and Company Executive Dinner. He talked about his history in the financial services community, his work on Capitol Hill as a staffer and elected official, and his strong relationships with independent insurance agents over the years.

The congressman has emphasized the importance of working with Republican leadership and incoming chair of the Senate Banking Committee, Sen. Tim Scott (R-South Carolina), to advance President-elect Donald Trump's agenda. Rep. Maxine Waters (D-California) will continue to be the ranking member of the House Financial Services Committee.

Raaed Haddad is Big “I" director of federal government affairs.
