FOCUS: Grange Insurance looks to increase non-monoline workers comp writings in its 10-state service territory. In particular, workers comp underwriters eye growth in six states: Tennessee, Georgia, Michigan, Indiana, Illinois and Pennsylvania. To achieve that, the multi-lines regional carrier touts workers comp as a tool the independent agency force can use to better serve overall account needs, explains Ray Mazzotta, assistant vice president and middle market leader. Mazzotta adds that the company is selectively appointing more agents to support growth in its small- and middle-market product line. The insurer expects to see more workers comp growth in its two middle-market package policies, Commercial Package Policy (CPP) and Expanded Premier Policy (XPP).

UNDERWRITING: Grange offers workers comp as a separate policy, written in conjunction with any of its three property-casualty packages: CPP, XPP and a business owner policy, BusinessAssure. The three packages provide general liability, miscellaneous professional liability, property/inland marine and auto. The carrier presents primary statutory workers comp coverage with $1 million in limits for employers liability.

MINIMUM PREMIUM: $10,000.

TARGET: Manufacturers, wholesalers, distributors, retailers and service providers qualifying as middle-market accounts: 25-250 employees and $25,000- $250,000 in premium.
