FOCUS: As part of a larger effort to serve the unmet market needs of smaller and mid-sized independent agents, Rockingham Casualty Company is broadening its product offerings outside of the traditional focus on homeowners, farm owners, personal auto and mobile home coverage—now offering a stable program with a broad appetite to underserved, small- to mid-sized retail agents and brokers.
The new products provide smaller independent agents with access to specialty products typically unavailable from national or super-regional carriers. The General Contractors’ General Liability program allows up to 100% sub-contracted work and concentrates on single-family custom home builders and commercial general contractors. The Artisan Contractors’ General Liability and Commercial Package programs complement Atlas’ exclusive workers compensation offering with another carrier partner, enabling placement of all lines for independent retail agent and broker partners. Atlas and Rockingham continue to provide smaller agents with access to products through their workers compensation and inland marine coverages.
UNDERWRITING: General liability limits range from $100,000-$1,000,000 per occurrence. In the contracting segment, new business clients are eligible with adequate experience in their trade. Property coverage up to $1,000,000 TIV is available when written in conjunction with general liability coverage.
MINIMUM PREMIUM: $500 for the artisan contractor, $1,250 for the general contractor and $1,000 for the commercial package policy. The Atlas Rockingham Program’s average contractor insured will generate approximately $2,500 in general liability premium, although artisan and trade contractors with an average premium of just under $1,000 will represent the item-count majority.
TARGET: Within the General Contractors Program, Atlas and Rockingham are targeting single-family custom home builders building 1-10 homes per year and sub-contracting up to 100%. For the Artisan Contractors Program, Atlas and Rockingham allow up to $1,000,000 in direct payroll with more than 50 eligible classifications and a limited amount of sub-contracted work. The ideal artisan contractor prospect is a small, mobile operation with one or two individuals that that might follow a general contractor on several projects a year. The Commercial Multi-Peril Package Program targets small businesses in one of the industry segments currently targeted by Atlas’ existing workers compensation programs, including but not limited to: restaurants and hospitality, light manufacturing and retail/wholesale trade. The commercial multi-peril is an excess and surplus offering.
