Insurance has been a part of Jay Fribourg’s life from the very beginning. His insurance career began when he interned at his family’s agency filing and scanning documents. After graduating from college, Fribourg joined the family agency but eventually broke off and started his own agency, Bentley Insurance, named after his 130-pound Great Dane. In 2012, Bentley Insurance was acquired by Pinnacle Insurance Group.

However, his experience working in a cybersecurity distributor startup firm led Fribourg to partner with former coworkers and create BlueZone Cyber Solutions, combining expertise in both insurance and cybersecurity.

Creating a cyber easy button?

At BlueZone, we have this goal to bring enterprise-level security down to the small business owner. That’s what we’ve been really focused on. Nowadays, the targets are these small businesses that don’t have the protection in place and they could really use a good outsource team. So we put a package together for them and for their insurance agencies. It’s that easy button that they can push.

Being a cybersecurity partner?

Insurance agents can sell cyber insurance, and then we work with them in a referral model for our services. Going into 2025, having a cybersecurity partner is important. And for cyber services companies too, having a trusted insurance broker is also important because the two parties need to be collaborating on opportunities to offer a customer more protection.

Charitable giving?

We donate 10% of our revenue back to charity before we pay ourselves. The bottom line is that we just want to do good and be a big part of our community.

We donate to children's charities, whether that's for their education or their health. And personally, I have my own organization called Football Love. I'm a big soccer player, I've been playing since I was four, years old and I'm 42 now. I raise money and we buy soccer balls for underprivileged youth in Costa Rica and in the U.S. I pride myself on my marketing being more charity-based marketing and meeting good people through those organizations and seeing what good we can do together while doing business at the same time.

What's in a name?

There are five Blue Zone areas in the world where people haave a higher life expectancy. In the cybersecurity world, there's the blue team that protects companies from being hacked into—as opposed to the red team who simulate cyberattacks so we're on the blue team for these companies. Additionally, it's an opportunity for me to connect with people and share my story about how I live most of the year in Costa Rica. And then the other half back in Austin, Texas.

Overcoming challenges facing insurance agents?

What can build a big wall and maybe the attackers will go down the street. You've got your data backed up but there's so much benefit from working with an expert on it, even as a small business owner. If you have ransomware and you need a translator in Russian this evening, you probably don't have that number in your pocket. But you can lean on us to be there for you.

Big 'I' membership benefits?

I tap into several different areas of the Big “I," including getting some direct appointments with vendors and carriers. I also use the Big “I" on the marketing side of the house, especially Trusted Choice. I appreciate the social media and the marketing content, especially the videos that they branded with our logo that we were able to share across social media. There are also the different conferences and the errors & omissions coverage that I can purchase for Blue Zone.
